Coupons 101-Part 4 Organizing Coupons

by Danielle on August 22, 2009

Organizing your coupons is important to avoid frustration and to make the process a lot easier.  I use two different methods.  Like I mentioned earlier, I clip the coupons I think I will use each Sunday.  Here is how I organize the coupons.

Clipped Coupons-I use trading(baseball) card protector sheets in a zip-up binder.  I used to use regular sheet protectors(the full page) but I was always pulling out the entire stack of coupons and flipping through them.  So the trading card protector sheets work much better for me.  Then I use divider tabs to categorize them.  These are the categories I divide my coupons into:
*Dental-toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, toothbrushes
*Personal Hygeine-razors, deodorant, body soap, shampoo, etc
*Femine Products-that explains itself!
*Make-up/Beauty
*Cleaning Supplies
*Paper products-toilet paper, paper towel, ziploc bags, foil
*Baby Items-diapers, baby soap, wipes, etc
*Snacks-popcorn, chips, etc
*Condiments-ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, salad dressing, etc
*Breakfast-cereal, granola bars, etc
*Entrees-meat, frozen meals, etc
*Breads
*Pizza
-I have separate one for pizza because it seems like we get so many
*Dairy-milk, eggs, sour cream, yogurt
*Dessert-ice cream, sweet snacks
*Target-all of my Target coupons
*KingSooper-low value coupons that I know I’ll use at KingSooper since they double coupons
*Walgreens
*Albertsons

Unclipped Coupons-The coupons I don’t clip I leave in the insert and write the date on the front page so it’s easy to read.  Then I put them into file folders and write the date and name of the insert on the tab with a pencil.  When I need a coupon from a certain date and insert it’s easy to find.  The file folders go in a small plastic file box.

The combination of these two systems has worked the best for me since I usually plan my shopping trip ahead of time.  I need to be better about always having my coupons with me.  It would be easy enough since the file box is small enough to put in my vehicle(it even has a handle on top).  I have gotten a lot better about always bringing my binder with me.  It’s a lot easier to bring it with since it zips and I don’t have to worry about all the coupons falling out.  What organization method works best for you?

Where can I find trading card protector sheets?

Danielle February 15, 2010 at 11:46 pm

Melissa,
You can find them at Walmart or Target in the trading cards section. Usually they are located at the front of the store. If you can’t find them, just ask and the clerks should be able to direct you!
