I want to take sometime to open the floor to all of you! I’m so happy to have so many dedicated readers! It’s such an awesome feeling to see the site growing! Thank you all!
The floor is yours. Ask any questions you may have about coupons, frugal living, menu planing, living with in a budget, fun & inexpensive things to do with your kids, life in general, etc. Also I’d love to hear testimonials from all of you: how you have changed your spending habits, what living within a budget means to you, etc.
I know in the past few years my husband and I have come a long ways! It’s such a great feeling to know we’re being good shepherds of our money. My goal is to have our home paid for sooner than later so we can share with others even more! It’s so worth watching what we spend and still enjoying life!
Tell me more about yourself and what you’d like to see on DenverMetroMoms! What goals have you set for your family and what will you do to accomplish them?

Hey Danielle – I’m a big fan of the website and your tips have been a tremendous help as I have begun to reduce our household budget – thanks! However, I’m not a parent (yet) and it’s just my husband and I. We don’t eat manufactured products regularly (occasionally a frozen pizza or some mac n cheese make a debut in our kitchen) and I make most of our household cleaning products. I am having a difficult time figuring out how to best use coupons for our lifestyle…I end up over spending my budget to use coupons and wondering if you have any tips or suggestions to help.
Thanks! Amanda
Amanda,
You bring up a great point. Sometimes using coupons can actually cost you more money because some people tend to buy things they normally wouldn’t just because they have a coupon. They key to using coupons is to use them only for items you would normally buy AND to pair it with a sale. Here’s an example:
You need flour tortillas for tacos and have a coupon for $1.00 off one package. You go to the store and find that they are $3.29 for one package(regular price). You purchase them at $3.29 and use your $1.00 off coupon so you spend a total of $2.29.
Now, if you wait until they go on sale for $1.29 and use your $1.00 off coupon you only pay $.29 for that same package.
So be sure you’re not buying items you normally wouldn’t, stock up when you find a good price, and save! Do you buy meat in bulk? I try to buy as much meat as my weekly budget will allow when it’s on sale. Then when I get home I divide the package into meal sized portions(2 chicken breasts, 2 pork chops, 1 lb hamburger, etc for my family), put them into freezer bags and freeze the meat.
Menu planning has been a huge help to my family as well. I try to plan according to what’s on sale for the week. I run my menu plan from Sunday-Saturday, but my budget is actually Thursday-Wednesday. I plan my menu based on what’s on sale, what I have in my freezer & pantry, and what we have scheduled for the week. If I know we have something planned for Thursday night I know it’s a good idea to do something easy or from the freezer. That brings up another point, do you freezer cook at all?
I could write a ton so I will email you and try to help you as much as possible! Thanks for commenting!
