Prep for Cooking/Baking Day

by Danielle on November 5, 2009

Did any of you stock up on the apples last week at Albertsons?  I am wishing I would have bought 2 more bags.  My friend Heather and I both bought 2 bags each so we’re planning on making some applesauce and apple dishes today.

We’re trying it in the crockpot which should be easy and delicious!

While she is here we are also going to be planning a Cooking/Baking day for later this month.  Our husbands will take the kids and we’ll be busy in the kitchen so we can stock our freezers.

Some of the things I know work really well and will most likely do are Chicken Cordon Bleu, Spicy Meat and Cheese Stromboli, BBQ Pork, and Shredded Beef for tacos, burritos, BBQ sandwiches, etc.  We’ll probably also try to do some baking or at least get some cookie dough made so we can freeze them and just pop them in the oven when we want to bake some.

What recipes do you have that freeze well?  We’d love to hear yours and possibly add them to our list!

Planning is the key to a successful baking day and since this is our first one together, we’ll be spending a good amount of time planning so it is a smooth day.

Most of the time I try to double entrees, sides, or desserts and freeze small amounts at a time.  I’m excited to try doing one big day.  Our goal is for this first one to go great so we can do it again in January to get Heather’s freezer stocked before baby #2 joins her family!

Have you done one big baking day, or do you split it up over a few days?  We’d love to hear your feedback about what has worked or hasn’t worked for you!
