Last week I forgot to mention a trip to Walgreens where I used up a $10 RR to buy 1 gallon of milk, two frozen pizzas, and a bag of tostito corn chips.
Total out of pocket was $.99.
This week I shopped a little, but stayed home toward the end of the week. I was glad to have had all of my necessities because a little flu bug came through. Thankfully it was short lived, but still not any fun. Honestly it was the first time my 2.5 year old has gotten the stomach flu. Not fun.
Here’s what I spent:
Oroweat Bakery Outlet $5.79 -2 Thomas McMuffins, 1 Thomas Blueberry bagels, 1 loaf whole wheat w/ added fiber bread, 1 whole wheat white bread
Safeway $21.92-10 boxes of assorted Nabisco crackers, bread machine yeast*, 2 Skippy peanut butters, Kraft Singles 2% Milk Fat, Eggs 18ct, 1 gallon Milk, 1 pint yogurt. Plus I’ll submit the rebate for the crackers getting $10 back so my total is only $11.92.
Weekly Total-$28.70
Monthly Total-$72.51
*I got a bread machine for Christmas and was really excited to try it. I paid way too much for the yeast at Safeway, but we wanted to try it with spaghetti. I attempted to make it twice and both times the machine shut off with 1hr 5mins left. I am bummed and will have to return the bread machine. For those of you who have a bread machine-do you use it often and where is the best place to buy yeast?

i love my bread machine i get my yeast at walmart it is less then $4 for a jar of the yeast 1 for 3 envelopes have fun
I don’t use my bread machine very often but my husband loves to make homemade pizza and so I buy yeast frequently. I usually get 3 envelopes for $1 at Target, it seems to be more expensive at King Soopers too, even though the coupon gets doubled.
Buy yeast at Sams Club or Costco and store in the fridge. I think its $4. for a huge block. I make a lot of bread but when I used my bread maker I only use the dough setting. I dont like the texture of bread made in the maker. So I just use the dough setting, let it do the work of mixing and proofing for me, take it out then put it in whatever pan Im using. I let it rise a little more and then bake it.
The texture of the bread is much better. Good luck!
Oh and 1 packet of yeast is equal to 2 and 1/2 teaspoons if you buy the yeast in bulk.
Thank you all so much on the tips for baking bread! Thankfully they are sending me a new machine so I’m excited for it to arrive. I need to find a great recipe for dough. I wanted to make cinnamon rolls for next Sunday morning. Please leave a comment if you have a good one! THank!
