Just a couple weekends ago my husband and I had the privledge of sneaking away for a few nights to Sanibel Island, Florida. It was a much needed break for both of us. We found ourselves bundling up to hit the beach(I didn’t even get my swimsuit out). Seriously, we took beach towels to wrap around our three layers of clothes to sit on the beach and relax. However, we made the most of it and had a blast laughing, playing, and relaxing together.
The greatest part was we didn’t feel guilty for spending a ton of money on the trip. We had been saving priority points and other reward points for a trip together. In the end we only paid around $350 total for the trip.
Just to give you an idea of what we did:
We got to see the dolphins two days! The first day they weren’t jumping as we were on a pontoon, and it didn’t have the wake like this particular boat did. The chilly boat ride around Sanibel and Captiva Islands was definately worth it because of them!
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Resort for three nights, drove a cute rental car for 4 days, and paid for two-way flights for each of us all for $12. We used some of our points and all we had left to pay was $12 for the rental car! The other money went towards entertainment and food. We were pretty excited!
We enjoyed two boat rides, lots of great food, and endless seashells! I will admit we paid attention to what we were spending on dining out as we wanted to stay with-in our targeted budget. One night we were sick of ‘fine dining’ and hit a local restaurant, ate in the bar area, ate half price appetizers and had a drink. It was fun to kick back and laugh together!
We really enjoyed our time! I can’t wait until our next trip together! I’ll show you some cool things I’m doing with all the shells we collected. They had these awesome pearly shells-perfect for what I have in mind! Meaningful gifts for loved ones-for cheap!
Do you save points to purchase gifts or do you save it for travel? One of my good friends uses reward points to purchase a large chunk of her Christmas gifts each year.
*By the way-I’m not encouraging using credit cards-it works for us for many of our purchases, but we pay it completely each month and watch what we spend very closely. We also are able to earn more points when my husband travels.

I am all about getting free stuff from credit cards…but I don’t recommend it to others either. We flew to Europe for free in 2007…we’ve stayed a number of nights in Hilton properties for free over the years…several free Southwest flights…and call me crazy, but I’m saving American miles now for a multi-stop trip sometime. We’ll see if it ever works!
