Just curiously…..what do you plant in your garden? I am fairly new to CO and have been told by my neighbors (who have lived here for some time) that it is hard to grow things here. I was hoping to have a little garden myself this year, but I don’t have a lot of time to “baby” it!!!
Stacy,
We’re pretty new as well. Last summer was our first summer here, but I didn’t get a garden in because of the move and a fairly new baby!
I’m kind of winging it this year, but hope to do some tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, radishes, and maybe carrots. Oh, also some fresh herbs. I think we’ll be doing either raised beds or planter for most of the stuff because of the landscaping in our backyard. I’ve found some good tips on
http://www.sunset.com under their gardening section-it’s specific to living in the west too!
Good luck!
I have a pretty low maintenance garden each year. I try to plant things that 1) are expensive at the store and 2) that we use a lot of! I hate to waste food! What I have found grows really well are tomatoes, onions, and zucchini. Another tip is to chat with your neighbors who garden, because you could always “share” your crops. 2 years ago I had so much zucchini (I ended up shredding and freezing it to make bread) and last year I had so many tomatoes (for salsa, canning, diced and frozen). I have tried peppers, but I never get more than 2 per plant. A garden is a great idea! Have fun!!! And thanks for the link to sunset.com- I will have to try it out.
