It’s the Little Things In Life…

by Danielle on April 14, 2010

I’ve been busy cleaning, decluttering, and organizing all morning.  I wanted to share a few little moments in the past week.  Because after all…it’s the little things that matter most!

If you come to visit, you’ll usually find me in the kitchen.  My husband is sneaking in there more often and grills, but the rest of the meals are on me.  This weekend he made me breakfast both mornings!  They were the best egg sandwiches I’ve ever had!  Saturday the kids were in the bath so I pretended it was breakfast in bed while they played and splashed near by.  Sunday it really was breakfast in bed!  He got up with Peyton while I slept and then surprised me with another great breakfast!  I love that man!

Most nights my son goes to bed fairly easy(ok, so most nights I chase him back to bed at least once).  However, I consider myself pretty lucky as far as bedtime routines!  Last night he asked me to lay with him so I did.  Just before I left his room I put my hand on his back.  He turned toward me and softly said, “What?”  I replied, “I love you Bubba.”  His reply, “I love you too Mommy.”  Even as I type this it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.  We tell each other I love you all the time at our house, but it’s usually Daddy who hears it from little man.  I love that little man!

My baby girl has not been a cuddle bug.  If I try rocking her she wants to sit up and see what’s going on.  Since our first child was a cuddle bug, I really missed this with my baby girl!  The last few nights she’s been waking up around 11p.m., just before I head up to bed.  Instead of bringing her a bottle, I’ve been rocking her….and she’s letting me!!  It’s such a wonderful feeling and the perfect way to end the day with my baby!  I love that sweet baby girl!

What are the little things in life you look forward to each day?  What mommy moments have made you utterly happy recently?

Sometimes I get so caught up in the mundane day to day tasks and running here to there to get this and that done.  It’s great to sit back and reflect on some of my favorite moments each week or day!

Little things like playing out in the kiddie pool with the kids today. They played and I was just going to stick in my feet and get them wet and little girl kept pouring water over my feet pretending I was her hotel guest. Really fun and by the way you know I got more than my feet wet!

The other night I was snuggling with my 3-year-old son at bedtime, and he reached up and patted my cheek and said, “Mommy, you’re a sweetie. I’m really proud of you.” I just about melted.

Like you, my first son was (and is) a cuddle bug, but my second child is not. But last night he woke up at about 5:00 am, and actually nursed himself back to sleep while I dozed in the rocker. It was so nice to get that cuddle time with him, even if it meant giving up some of my sleep.
