Great Resources for Saving Money

by erica on August 19, 2010

Since the day I started couponing I have found some wonderful saving resources.  These sites are run by amazing, creative people and they have profoundly changed the way I run my house.  When I was a career woman I had absolutely no idea how much work and planning went into making a house into a home.  Hopefully these sites can be as inspiring for you as they have been for me.

My introduction to the coupon world came from Erin at couponcravings.com.  I don’t remember how I stumbled on her site but after five minutes I was hooked.  I printed off her step by step instructions and headed to Target, still not quite believing that getting things for free was possible.  Well, it worked like a charm and I was so excited I passed the post to the person in line behind me because they were amazed at how much I saved too.

Charlene at myfrugaladventures.com has some wonderful posts and the site is updated everytime I look.  If I have been out for a few hours the first thing I do when I get back to the computer is check her site.  Nearly everytime I check there is another new, awesome deal.  I sometimes get overwhelmed trying to keep up with all the good deals she posts.  I linked to her Amazon page where she details exactly how to get super cheap diapers shipped to your home for free.  Thanks to her (and www.swagbucks.com for the $5 gift card) I got a 68 pack of pampers Easy Ups delivered yesterday for a grand total of 35 cents and two weeks ago a huge box of Huggies Overnights for $2.65.

Couponing to Disney with Kristen is fantastic.  She has a very well layed out “5 a day” plan where you email manufacturer’s to get free products.  She has got me free corndogs, free pain relievers, free household products.  She shares real world experience in some of her stories which gives the site a very human feel.  Her site has never made me feel like a bafoon for not being able to cook a gourmet meal.  Be sure to take a look at the “No Dining Out” challenge and her  ”Minniemizing for the Mouse” shows her weight loss journey while preparing to take her kids to the Happiest Place on Earth.  You just know from reading her blog that she is the most fun mom on her block.  www.couponingtodisney.com

If there is anything happening in Denver you will learn all about it at www.milehighonthecheap.com.  Claire and Laura are the uttmost authorities on family friendly deals and entertainment.  One of the things I love about this site is they offer such a variety, such as a Kids Eat Free tab, Garage Sale Listings, Cheap Gas and everything else you could ever need to find in the area.

And if you ever wondered about how bloggers make money it is by you, our readers, checking out our ads and clicking our posts.  It is obviously in our best interests to bring you content that you will find valuable.  We are all interested in getting reader feedback so we can fine tune our efforts and give you exactly what you are looking for.   So if you like what we are doing, send us a note, pass it on to your friends and click on a link or two.

On that subject, I make it a point to try all the offers out myself before bringing them to you.  I hate when I click on something thinking it might be a good deal and it downloads garbage onto my computer and loads pop ups everywhere. If you ever find something like that on the site that I missed please tell me about it ASAP.

Thanks a ton for referring me to your website (I’m the guy with three little boys who was behind you at Safeway yesterday). I’ve read a bunch of stuff on your site and the people you linked to, but I had a couple of questions . . .
1. You mention a “step by step instructions” on couponcravings; I can’t find anything like that there . . . . Any idea where it may be? Or helpful “getting started” hints?
2. You talk about buying good quality and then selling at consignment stores. Any stores in the area you would reccomend?
3. You mentioned the safeway coupon books with the dollar off produce. Where can you find these?
Thanks in advance- I really appreciate the time.

I too love my frugal adventures. I had to subscribe to her RSS feed so I wouldn’t miss all the good deals she posts and I don’t have a chance to check her site frequently enough :)

Look near the lunch meats for those books or at the customer service desk. There is a new one out that has some good coupons in it. We will be doing some coupon introductory work soon, I promise. Sometimes I get going pretty fast and forget I have been doing this two years longer than most of you guys. It’s fun to go back to the beginning and learn new techniques. Keep us updated and let us know how much you are saving. It starts off slow but the longer you do it the closer you start getting to 80/90% off. I nearly cried when I got a receipt from Walmart saying I saved 101% and managed to get 16 cents back for three bags of groceries. It is now stuck to my wall to give me inspiration:).
