Walgreen’s has a few good items this week that are free after Register Rewards. Register Rewards are the coupons that print after you pay for your purchase which you can use on your next order. Here is a sample scenario:
Buy 1 Colgate Total Toothpaste $2.99
1 Walgreens 8 pack tampons $1.99
1 Carmex Moisture Plus Lip Balm $2
1 Breathe Right Strips $4
2 Irish Spring Body Wash or SoftSoap
use:
$1.50/1 Breathe Right Product, exp. 10-31-10 (RP 04/11/10)
$0.75/1 Colgate Total, exp. 10-31-10 (ALL YOU Sept ’10) or
$0.75/1 Colgate Toothpaste, exp. 9-18-10 (SS 08/29/10)
$1/1 Irish Spring Body Wash (Reinventing Beauty, Jul ’10)
$1/1 Softsoap Body Wash (Reinventing Beauty, Jul ’10)
$1/1 Softsoap Body Wash, exp. 10-1-10 (ALL YOU Sept ’10)
Total would be $17.98 before coupons and $13.73 out of pocket after coupons plus tax. Then you would get $15 Register Rewards back. You could then buy Irwin Naturals Skin & Nails Supplement for $10 and then a few filler items like the 5/$1 2 pocket folders with the in ad coupon. Use as many Register Rewards as you need to to pay and then get another $10 reward for buying the supplement.
The idea here is to keep using those Register Rewards to pay for your next transaction. You need to buy “filler” items because Walgreen’s sees the rewards as manufacturer coupons and you cannot use more than one manufacturer coupon on each item. And you cannot usually use the same reward on the same item again. For example, if you use the $4 reward from Breathe Right to pay for another Breathe Right, it will not produce another reward. But you could use the Breathe Right reward to pay for the Softsoap and then use the Softsoap reward to buy another Breathe Right.
The rewards expire in about two weeks so if you don’t think you will be back to Walgreen’s soon be sure to use them before you leave. Recently I went to Walgreen’s to get a toner cartridge refilled. I knew that it would be $10 so I searched the store and bought a few things that produced Register Rewards. I then used those rewards to pay for the toner cartridge. So instead of just giving them $10 for the toner, I did another transaction first and got some crackers, snacks and toothpaste to pay for the second. It does seem complicated at first but once you have the hang of it you will find it is a great way to build a stockpile and stretch your grocery budget.
I had to learn the hard way at Walgreen’s that it doesn’t pay to spend time making up an elaborate list. In many cases they will be out of the Register Reward items. You can ask for a raincheck when that happens. Also, for a long time I would see great deals on other coupon sites and then they wouldn’t work for me when I checked out. Walgreen’s and Rite Aid have a shorter ad in Colorado so many of the good deals are not valid in our area so always check your local ad. Also, at the front of the store by the ads they have coupon books that are specific to Walgreen’s, don’t forget to grab one.
